Lucasville (Homestead On The Hill) Joel Dobbins You Know Who You Are

Back Story:

"Originally part of the abandoned Acoustic Album that I redid, this song was written about a real place on the outskirts of Sydney called Lucasville where there used to be a train station called Lucasville alone the Lapstone Zig Zag railway joining Sydney with the Blue Mountains. You can walk to the remains today via a walking trail which once was where the traintrack was laid. There are only very few remains of the homestead but the station platform is still there. As for the lyrics I wrote, the story is completely fictitious other than the fact that there really was a train station built just to service that one household which intrigued me. It's remarkable a whole train station would be added for just the one person along with extra track length being added to do the zig zag manoeuvrer. There are many abandoned train tracks and tunnels around the Glenmore area since it is such a steep part of the ascent up the Blue Mountains from Sydney. I believe it took three goes to define the path where the current train track lies today.

The solo was inspired by how I played the climactic note in the solo for Gravier's "Mesmerised By You" by playing the open string of the high E string while playing the notes on the B string, so I played every note this way for the solo which I think works well. Lyrically, this song was inspired by the storytelling style of the Eagles, especially "Lying Eyes"."

Lyrics:

Lucasville was the homestead of mine
Each morning steam simmering up the incline
That'd be my signal to grab my suitcase and cane
Boarding the magnificent Zig Zag train

A parting goodbye at the homestead on the hill
My dinner is waiting for me at Lucasville

After a long day I'm dying to get off my feet
She hands me a letter with tears rolling down her cheeks
"Dear Madam and or Sir" the letter began to say
"We require you to pack up and move away"

Demolition imminent at the homestead on the hill
Our lives were uprooted from our home at Lucasville

Lucasville, how I miss you and my Lucasville
We never wanted to leave, it was against our will
Lucasville, our perfect little Lucasville
Oh how I miss our dear old homestead on the hill

Today, decades older but still I remember clear
These memories forever fading is my greatest fear
The track is gone, barely any trace is left there
My wife, bless her, and I had great memories to share

Wish we had those times again at the homestead on the hill
Wish my wife and I could still have our Lucasville

The station is overgrown, with not even the station chair
It's hard to believe our old home is now nowhere
By the next summer the cancer had spread
Here I lie alone in my hospital bed

Take me back to Lapstone to our homestead on the hill
With my late wife and our dear, dear Lucasville

Lucasville, how I miss you and my Lucasville
We never wanted to leave, it was against our will
Lucasville, our perfect little Lucasville
Oh how I miss our dear old homestead on the hill

Today I lie dying in my hospital bed
Recalling all the times we had and said
Just like the station, nature's edging me away
My life is like an evening's last moment sunray

I'm drifting away to the homestead on the hill
Far way to days long gone at Lucasville

Lucasville, how I miss you and my Lucasville
We never wanted to leave, it was against our will
Lucasville, our perfect little Lucasville
Oh how I miss our dear old homestead on the hill

Yeah, here we go again!
