Back Story:

"A friend was over on a phone call so I picked up my mandolin and see if I couldn't come up with a tune before the phone call ended. That week I had been listening heavily to Paul McCartney's Egypt Station album, so that gave me the idea of trying to write something Egyptian, and that's how the intro came about. At that point I had no idea where else to take it so I thought well let's see if I can't combine this Egyptian inspired sound with a poppy verse and Chorus. It just so happened that I was going through some old song lyrics a few days later and found what I considered probably my first usable set of what I thought of as decent lyrics which I never did try using before. This was in December 2007, and at this stage I'd been writing lyrics for over a year. The lyrics were inspired by a girl who really was a foster child and actually had burnt her hands in a accident when she was a child. We used to go on long walks together along the beach during summer holidays and I thought she was really beautiful which is why I wrote those lyrics but because they were so unusual I shelved them and literally forgot about them for years."

Lyrics:

She told me she never knew her father
She was let go and never looked after
How could anyone let go of a girl
With all the beauty in the world

She told me
She told me (she loves me)
She told me

She told me she burnt her hands
As we walked together along the sand
Exploring the beach and the soul in her eyes
With all the beauty in the world

She told me
She told me (she loves me)
She told me

She told me she was a foster child
Moved a dozen times, very wild
Newly in contact with her Mum
With only music she'd hum

She told me
She told me (she loves me)
She told me

She told me she never knew her father
She was let go and never looked after
How could anyone let go of a girl
With all the beauty in the world

She told me
She told me (she loves me)
She told me

She told me she burnt her hands
As we walked together along the sand
Exploring the beach and the soul in her eyes
Till in came the morning tide

She told me
She told me (she loves me)
She told me

She told me
She she loves me
She told me
