The Guy In The Sky Gravier I Decided To Tell You

Back Story:

"I basically wrote the whole song, both music and lyrics, except Tom Whalan wrote one line in one of the verses and Samuel Dobbins co-wrote the third verse. This song became our go-to when showing off Gravier's songs as it has an infectious hook and is just all round a magic sounding song. It was composed very quickly, I was in my room recording while Samuel and Tom were out in the lounge room doing something else unrelated to music. This was my third musical idea I composed on that day. I recorded a coin spinning as a way to start off the song for effect. The song has lyrically religious themes as I was still a Christian at that time. With each pair of verses, I sing the first verse only and then both Samuel and I sing the second verse; after that we switch. I recorded all the instruments except Samuel plays drums on this song. This is the first song I recorded a key change in as well. This song was one of the earliest since Tom Whalan joined Gravier but ultimately didn't want to release any of his songs he wrote during this time so unfortunately this album didn't get to feature any of his really cool songs, some of which I overdubbed guitar and vocals on."

Lyrics:

Will I be here tomorrow
What will be at the end of the tunnel
Travelling through a funnel of sorrow
Is there a light or an end to my story

Will I shatter from just one small rock
Will it take a brick to break the lot
My life is hardly in my hands
I should trust in the guy in the sky

The guy in the sky
Leaves me no questions why
The guy in the sky
Gives rest to my eyes

The night never seemed so cold
How could I let the years unfold
What can I do
Did I ever miss the cue
Man, I should trust the guy in the sky

The guy in the sky
The guy in the sky
Ooh

Ohh
